SrinagarSahara Hockey Club defeated Young Anantnag Hockey Club by 3 goals to 2 in the first match of Open State Hockey Championship played at Gundan Stadium Raj Bagh, an official statement said on Tuesday.
In the second match, Kashmir Hockey Academy defeated Shopian Hockey Club by 4:2.
The tournament is being organised by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir in association with J&K State Sports Council.
President Hockey JK Kanta Andotra the final match of the tourney will be played at Polo Ground Srinagar on November.
Earlier the championship was inaugurated by Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh and President Hockey JK Kanta Andotra.
According to the statement, Andotra assured for full support for promotion of Hockey in Kashmir. She also assured for upgradation playfields, equipments, availabilities of coaches and organisation of special coaching camps for sub-junior/junior played both men and women of Kashmir division.
