SrinagarDistrict Election Office organized a cycle race and marathon race from Gen. Ex. School Kanun Bandipore to main gate Mini Secretariat Bandipora under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity, an official statement said on Saturday.
According to the statement, about 50 students of various schools besides NCC and youth of Ali Supports Academy participated in the race.
Deputy District Election Officer (DDEO) Bandipora Bilquees Jan and Deputy Chief Education Officer (District Nodal Officer SVEEP) G.M Lone flagged off the race. Officials from Youth Services and Sports were also present on the occasion.
Essay competition was also held under the same activity in which the students wrote on the topic ‘Greater participation for a stronger democracy’.
Later, an oath ceremony was held in which the participants pledged to take forward the message of the importance of enrolment in electoral roll.
Trophies and other prizes were also distributed among the position holders and other participants on the spot.
While addressing to the gathering, Deputy DEO and deputy CEO highlighted the importance of EPIC and asked the youth to carry the message forward so that the motto of Election Commission of India (ECI) “No voter to be left” is achieved in the district.
