SrinagarIn a bizarre incident, the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to repair the damaged transformer of Kulgam village from past two years, forcing the villagers to reel under darkness.
The transformer in Bagward Khuri in Batpora village of South Kashmirs Kulgam district developed technical snag some two year before, but the authorities have failed to repair since then, the locals alleged.
Interestingly, the locals as per the KNS correspondent, Zahoor Andrabi also claimed that the families who were forced to reel under darkness were receiving monthly bills from the department.
Abdul Rehman, a local told KNS that the transformer in their village developed a technical snag two year ago, following which the authorities came and took the transformer for repairing purpose. Despite the passage of two years, the authorities are yet to repair the damaged transformer and to install it again, he said.
He said that the department is deliberately forcing them to reel under darkness. We have been approaching to the higher ups several times but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard, he said.
Villagers said that the department is forcing them to face hardships as without receiving the electricity they are being asked to pay the monthly charges for the electricity. How can we pay the amount when we didnt get electricity from last two years, they said.
The locals appealed the PDD higher ups to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at the earliest so that the people here could feel a sigh of relief.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Basher Ahmad told KNS that they will provide transformer to the residents within 15 days.
However, he also said that the villagers have to pay their monthly charges. Villagers will have to pay 50 per cent of their electricity charges. We will try to deduct their changes by 50 per cent, he said. (KNS)
