SrinagarA 16-year-old youth sustained bullet wound after paramilitary CRPF reportedly opened fire on protesters in Nowgam area of Srinagar City on Saturday.
Reports said that groups of youth protesting near Railway Station in Machow area of Nowgam against growing incidents of braid-chopping in Kashmir Valley clashed with armed police.
Central forces used tear smoke shells and fired few rounds to disperse protesters. When clashes intensified forces opened fire. One Arsalan of Kralpora area of Chadoora was hit by a bullet below his shoulder, eyewitnesses said.
Arsalan was immediately shifted to nearby Chittergam hospital where from he was removed to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialized treatment, they said.
Tension escalated in the area after the news of the youths bullet injury spread, with more people coming out to protest.
Situation was reported to be tense as conflicting rumours about injured youths condition was making rounds.
