ShopianHomes of at least five militants were ransacked allegedly by government forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir, a day after pro-militant crowd set ablaze house of a slain PDP worker in the district.
Local reports said that the forces allegedly raided and ransacked houses of five militants including Obaid Malla, Zubair, Adil, Umar and Syed Naveed in various villages of Shopian including Trenz, Turkwangam, Babakhider, Malik Gund and Nazneenpora.
Family members of militants alleged that government armed personnel forced their entry into the houses, ransacking them and destroying whatever household items came in their way.
Army according to inmates barged into the houses on Tuesday night. They forcibly dragged us from houses and ransacked them. After causing massive damage to houses, they thrashed us mercilessly, said protesting family members.
Reports said that police have also detained kin including brothers and fathers of many militants in the wake of killing of a PDP worker at Imam Sahab and subsequent torching of his house.
While police denied ransacking allegations and said they are probing the matter, residents held protests against the forces action.
The protesters who assembled at Safanagri village alleged that Army raided the houses of militants.
Pertinently, a couple of militants from these villages are active and affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Srinagar based Defense Spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia while terming the allegations baseless said that Army men neither manhandled anyone nor caused damage to the property.
