SrinagarThe Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) is in the process of establishing a spacious Library-cum-Reading Room with Reference facility at the Media Complex, Srinagar.
According to Director Information, Mr Muneer-ul-Islam, the Library will not only serve as a depository of current newspapers and magazines but will also house the archives of various publications from the State. The facility will serve as a knowledge bank for journalists, students, scholars and researchers, he said.
He said DIPR already is in possession of a huge collection of historic newspapers and other publications dating back to 1930s published from the State and is in the process of digitizing this knowledge treasure-trove.
The Department has also started collecting newspapers, magazines, journals, books, photographs and any other relevant material prior to 1950 for the upcoming library.
Anybody in possession of such publications or material and desirous of sharing the same with DIPR for larger public use can contact Mr Shabir Ahmad, Media Coordinator, Directorate of Information on Cell No: 9419007581 or email at [email protected].
