SrinagarThe Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, J&K in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Amira Kadal organized World Food Day- 2017 to commemorate the founding of the United Nation Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO).
O P Sharma, Director, Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K was the Chief Guest.
In his address he emphasized the need for consuming organic foods for healthy living. He impressed upon the audience to change the food habits in order to reduce Green House emission, Carbon Food Print & Strain on Natural Resources like Water, Biodiversity, Carbon sequestration & other Ecosystem Services.
The students were made aware of the Environmental concerns like non-use of Polythene bags, Plastic bottles and its ill effects. Affifa Qureshi, Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Amira kadal also spoke on the occasion and desired that such interactive programmes be organized frequently for the benefit of the community. Zahoor Ahmad Akhoon, Dr. Tasneem Keng also spoke on the occasion.
