SrinagarAt least seven persons suffered pellet injuries when police used force to rescue an alleged braid chopper, in Boniyar Uri in North Kashmirs Baramulla district on Saturday.
Reports said that the residents caught hold of a man whom they accused of cutting the braid of woman and gave him a severe thrashing. Amid pro-freedom slogans, the protesters dragged the suspected braid chopper on road while police arrived on the spot and forcibly took his custody. The protesters resented police action and pelted stones while police fired tear-smoke shells and pellets in return.
At least nine people suffered injuries in the clashes including seven with pellets.
At Sheeri Baramulla also people protested against fresh braid chopping incident.
Reports from Lawaypora HMT area of Srinagar city said that two braid chopping incidents were foiled by two young girls. One of the girls has suffered injuries while reportedly confronting a burqa clad braid chopper. According to family members, the girl raised alarm and pushed back the chopper.
At Chana Mohalla Chattabal area of city, people came out of their homes to protest after braid of a woman was chopped off by miscreants. People alleged that police have failed to expose the criminals responsible for crime.
