SrinagarFollowing the directions given by the Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Saturday launched a demolition drive in Srinagar.
The SMC officials here on the first day of the drive demolished an illegal structure in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar. The building was raised in violation of the norms, SMC commissioner, Dr Shafqat Khan said.
He also revealed that three hotel buildings in Raj Bagh area were also sealed today, which were constructed in violation of the master plan and building permission.
The hotel constructions were also lacking the parking space, he said, adding that one among the hoteliers has claimed that he has valid documents.
The hotelier who objected the sealing of his hotel has been asked to come to the office along with his documents, he said.
Earlier on Friday, in order to clear the encroachments and illegal constructions in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir had convened a meeting to review the preparedness of demolition drive which will start from Sunday.
DIG Central, VC LAWDA, VC SDA, Commissioner SMC, Director Local Bodies, Deputy Director Planning, Engineers of PWD & I&FC, Assistant Commissioner (Nazool) and other concerned officers were present in this meeting.
Divisional Commissioner directed SMC, SDA, LAWDA and I&FC to remove illegal constructions and encroachments across the city as well as in the Dal Lake, Jhelum river and other water bodies from tomorrow(Saturday) and book the violators immediately as per the law.
