SrinagarIn order to sensitize the various government departments for developing an understanding of the ‘Climate Finance’ and development of adaptation projects, a one-day training programme was organized by the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing at the Banquet Hall, Srinagar.
The training programme was organized in collaboration with Department of Science & Technology, GoI, IHCAP PMU Embassy of Switzerland and NABARD (NABCONS).
During the workshop, the participants got an opportunity to discuss the concepts of climate finance and formulation of the adaptation projects discussing case study of springs and spring-shed management during the deliberations.
The workshop was attended by participants from various line organizations including departments of Disaster Management, Urban Development, Rural Development, Horticulture, Health Services, Irrigation, and Flood Control, PHE, Tourism, Roads & Buildings, Power Development, Soil Conservation, State Forest Research Institute, Forest, IWDP, Wildlife Protection, Power Development Corporation, Industries & Commerce, State Forest Research Institute, JKEDA, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing.
In his opening remarks, Om Prakash Sharma, Director Ecology, Environment & Remote sensing gave a birds eye view of the climate change visible in the state of Jammu & Kashmir and efforts being made by the Department to hook in various local stake holders to devise comprehensive strategies to combat the impact of this change.
Dr. Mustafa Khan from IHCAP gave an account of the strategies being developed in other Himalayan states and discussed the methodology for developing the concept notes. Majid Farooq, Coordinator of the Climate Change Cell at the DEERS gave a detailed presentation on the availability of geospatial, statistical and metrological data available in the state that can be interpreted and analyzed.
He informed that the audience about the various activities being carried out by the Climate Change Cell.
During the technical session, experts Sushil Kumar and Suraj Pandey gave presentations on on Climate Change Project Preparation and Climate Fundings like National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC), Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) – its opportunities, Data and Information Prerequisites for project preparation that needs to be assembled prior to project design and Development of concept note for an adaptation project taking an example of spring-shed management.
