SrinagarUnknown persons chopped off beard of a Masjid Imam in central Kashmirs Budgam district on Friday.
Molvi Ghulam Nabi Ghorsi was on way to Masjid in Futlipora village of Chrar-e-Sharief area in the wee hours Friday to lead Fajr (dawn) prayers when unknown persons caught hold of him and chopped off his beard, local sources said.
He fell unconscious and was shifted to hospital, they said.
A police official in Chrar-e-Sharief confirmed the incident.
The incident sent shock waves inviting condemnations from all quarters.
Socio-religious organization Jamiat-e-Ahal-Hadees while condemning the incident termed it a direct attack on the religion. The organization blamed Indian agencies for the act and said that new ways and means are being adopted to harass the hapless people of Kashmir. (CNS)
