AnantnagAn elderly man who was hit by a brick during Thursday night in his Anantnag compound succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS, Soura on Friday. While family term his death an accident, some reports suggest he was killed by a vigilante mob who was out patrolling the village to keep braid choppers at bay.
Reacting to the news reports that an elderly person mistaken as braid chopper has died after he was hit by a brick, a police official said that they dont have any information about the incident.
Station House Officer Anantang Police Station said that even family of the deceased has stayed away and has not filed any complaint.
The family of the deceased person Abdul Salam Wani (70) of Danter village of Anantnag in South Kashmir refused to talk, however, the relatives said that Wani was hit by a brick thrown by his own teenager relative. Wani had come out from his house on Thursday night while his 15 year old relative present in the premises of the house got frightened and he threw a brick on him. There was no crowd but it was an isolated incident, they said.
The relatives added that it was just an accident and the family doesnt want to make it an issue.
Earlier reports said the man was killed by a vigilante mob after he was mistaken for a braid chopper.
One report said Abdul Salam had come out of his house in the wee hours of Friday to answer the call of nature, the mob outside mistook him for a braid chopper and hit him with a brick.
He died instantly, a police officer said.
Local people have set up vigilante mobs to keep surveillance against braid choppers in different places of Kashmir Valley.
