SrinagarPolice on Wednesday foiled a protest march of Batamaloo traders and transporters trying to move towards the Civil Secretariat by detaining dozens of them at Lal Chowk.
The protest march was organised by traders, transporters, and street vendors Joint Coordination Committee Batamaloo.
Scores of protesting traders, transporters and street hawkers had gathered at Press Enclave in the morning but were intercepted and cane-charged by police at Ghanta Ghar.
Earlier, speaking to media persons, Abrar Khan, chairman of the Joint Coordination Committee said instead of shifting the bus terminal, authorities should construct a road through Tattu ground to prevent congestion in Batamaloo.
“Let them make a road through Tattoo ground which will divert the movement of traffic from Batmaloo bus terminal through bypass. They can erect a barricade from Batamaloo side to prevent vehicles to ply from the arterial road, Khan said.
Pertinently, the hearing for the case on shifting of Batamaloo Bus Terminal in the High Court is scheduled on Thursday.
