PoonchAfter the intense mortar shelling and firing by Pakistani Army targeting Indian forward posts, authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of schools near the Line of Control (LoC) in Degwar area of Poonch district.
Reports said that shelling and firing from across the border started at 8:45 am in Degwar, Maldiyalan and Tarwan areas along the LoC.
Pakistan army has been firing with automatic weapons. Indian army is retaliating in equal measure, said an official.
The official said that Three soldiers of 2 Naga regiment all residents of Nagaland-injured in the firing were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Sources said all schools were closed in the Degwar area. Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tariq Zargar confirmed to news agency CNS that he has ordered the closure of all government and private schools today in Degwar area.
Pertinently, on Tuesday night, an Indian soldier was killed in sniper fire in Poonch Sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, three persons including two children were killed in Pakistan firing.
Both countries have been accusing each other of cease fire violations. India frequently accuses Pakistan of opening fire often to help militants enter into Indian territory, the charge always vehemently rejected by Pakistan.
Meanwhile, a Pakistan based newspaper reported that a woman and her younger brother were killed and two others were injured in Indian firing. (CNS)
