KupwaraNorth Kashmirs frontier district Kupwara is brimming with football fever with a horde of tournaments being organised across the villages and main town. The people have shown great interest in the sport with decent crowd turning up for even local tournaments.
The flagship tournament proved to be Kupwara Champions League Football Tournament 2017 which was played under floodlights. Its summit clash saw crowd making their way into Higher Secondary Ground Kupwara- the venue for the game- to watch a tough final between Langate XI and Lalpora Lolab. So much so, the ground was jam packed with crowd egging on their respective teams at top of their voice making it a grand spectacle.
The match evoked massive response from the people of Kupwara and sports lovers from across the Jammu and Kashmir, taking the sports in Kashmir to next level,” said Tariq Ahmad Malik, organizer of the tournament.
Langate XI walked away with the title piping Star-XI Lalpora 2-0. They got their first goal in the first half and second in the initial moments of the second one. Star XI Lalpora tried their best to find the net, but failed to get the goals which mean Langate XI lifted the trophy.
The tournament was organized by Kupwara Football Foundation and and sponsored by many business communities. Mir News Agency Kupwara , Daily Chattan, Daily Srinagar Times and Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK) were the media partners of the event.
Langate XI Captain Mudasir Ahmad was delighted with the performance of his players. Our team played brilliantly. We had worked hard for this match and our strategy worked. I had told my players to play aggressively in the whole tournament as that is the only way we could win.
Bilal Ahmad Malik, one of the organisers of the event, urged the authorities to bolster the infrastructure in the area.
Here we have grounds but there is a need to improve the infrastructure at every such level, so that the national/ International level games will be played here, he said.
Meanwhile, the people of Kupwara praised the organizers for organizing such a successful event. Meanwhile Member of Parliament Mir Fayaz , who was the chief guest, announced 20 Lakh rupees for floodlights and other equipments for this ground.
