Srinagar Director General of Prisons, S. K. Mishra Monday inaugurated a first of its kind skills training centre for jail inmates at Central Jail, Srinagar.
The skills training centre has been established by Prisons Department in collaboration with Art of Living Organization. The DGP said that soon similar kind of centres will be established in rest of other jails, including Kot Balwal in the State.
The idea behind the setting up of training centres at different jails is to professionally train inmates in fields such as handicrafts, electrical service, computers etc., DGP Mishra said.
He said such a step and skill training would reform and successfully reintegrate jail inmates into the society after they walk free from jail.
The DGP Prisons said that reformation of inmates, followed by technological up-gradation of prison and staff development are the main areas of interest for the Department.
He urged inmates to participate in training programmes and avail its benefits to the full so that they can contribute to the society after serving their respective jail terms.
