Srinagar: Mehjoor Nagar Bridge that was supposed to be thrown open for public in June this year may likely to miss another deadline of December as the work on it is going at snails pace.
The bridge connects several south city areas with the city centre. The route is also used by commuters coming from south Kashmir, especially when there is medical emergency to reach city hospitals.
Due to the closure of old Bridge, the authorities have installed a Bailey bridge. The road leading to Bailey bridge from both sides is in dilapidated condition.
We were expecting that Economic Reconstruction Agency will meet the deadline of June but that didnt happen. The way working has been going on makes us believe that it will not be thrown open this year, said a local resident of Mehjoor Nagar to news agency CNS.
Director ERA, Satish Razdan said that they are hopeful that it will be thrown open for traffic by December 31st this year. The sub-structure of the bridge is complete now the fabrication of steel that we call super-structure has been going on in our Lasjan yard and hopefully by December the work on the bridge will be completed, Razdan said.
