SRINAGAR: Action continued in “KheloSehatKeLiye (Play for Health)” Football Tournament with six matches played across three venues of the valley on Saturday.
Degree College Anantnag defeated Degree College Pulwama2-0 in the first fixture played at Anantnag Sports Stadium. Azlam and Sameer were the scorers for the winning team.
In the second match at the same venue, Degree College Kulgam defeated Degree College Bijbehara in a tie-breaker after both the teams failed to score in the allotted time.
Over in Bandipora, Degree College Bandipora defeated Physical Education College Ganderbal by three goals to one in the first encounter of the day. In the second match SP College Srinagar failed to turn up at the venue and Degree College Ganderbal was awarded a walkover.
At Baramulla, Degree College Sopore and Gandhi College Srinagar played a goal less draw in the allotted time. However, in tie-breakerSopore team won by 4-3. In the second match at the same venue, SSM College Pattan defeated Degree College Baramulla 4-3 in a tie breaker after both the teams failed to score in the allotted 90-minutes.
The event was inaugurated by the Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Baghat and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari on August 30 and is being played at four different venues across Kashmir. The matches in Jammu division are expected to start from next week in Jammu, Poonch, Rajour, Kathua and Udhampur.
Teams from Government Degree Colleges, Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges are participating in the state level event which is being organised by the Health and Medical Education Department in association with the J&K Sports Council on knock-out basis.
The arrangements for the tournament have been made by J&K Football Association in collaboration with Department of Health and Medical Education, Department of Higher Education, J&K Sports Council, National Health Mission and J&K State AIDS Control Society. The slogan of the tournament is “KheloSehatKeLiye (Play for Health)”
The event has been organised with an aim to devise a long term strategy to hold regular sports events in future for the benefit of the doctors, medical students and those of other educational institutions. The football players who are participating in this tournament have hailed this step taken by the government.
The winning, runner-up and the third runner-up teams will get cash prizes besides trophies. The semifinals and the final of the event is scheduled to be played at TRC Synthetic Turf Football Stadium in Srinagar.
