SrinagarMohammad Zaid slammed an undefeated 93 as Islamia College beat Government Degree College Baramulla by five wickets in the second quarter-final of Prof Yousuf Memorial Inter College Cricket Cup played at Islamia College ground on Thursday.
In a keenly fought tie, GDC Barmulla opted to bat first. Thanks to a 64-ball 74 from Jehangir and a 25-ball cameo for 54 runs from Ijtiba, GDC Baramulla managed a total of 211 but were bowled out 5.2 overs before they could play all of allotted 35 overs. For Islamia College Mehfooz Khan snared four wickets while Bilal had two scalps to his name.
Islamia Colleges chase was dented upfront losing four wickets with scoreboard reading just 30 runs on the board. The batting side needed a steady partnership and they got one through the pair of Zaid and Bilal who put on a mammoth 150 for the fifth wicket which proved to be a match winning phase for the host. Zaid was the aggressor during the partnership slamming an undefeated 93 off just 60 balls. Bilal contributed vital run a ball 41. The hosts reached the target with three overs to spare and half the side still intact. For Baramulla, Umar and Junaid took a brace of wickets each.

At the start of the match the teams were introduced to the chief guest Prof. Muzafar Ahmed Khan the principal Islamia college and he awarded a ball to Kamran Momin as momento with which he took seven wickets in the previous match of the team played at Anantnag.
Today Gandhi Memorial college will meet Islamia College Alumni in the 3rd quarter final and on Monday Post Graduates will play A S College for a berth in semifinals. The tournament is being organised by the department of Physical Education Islamia College Srinagar.
