SrinagarCentral University of Kashmir (CUK), Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Thursday inaugurated Hindi-Divas at varsitys Nowgam-II administrative cum academic campus here.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, former Head of Department of Hindi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Prof. Vinod Taneja, Finance Officer, Mr. Haji Bashir Ahmad, Hindi Adhikari, Ms. Sakeena Akhter, and senior officials of the university were also present during the function organised by the Rajbhasha Cell.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the people should learn different languages of the world in addition to their mother tongue. The language should never be identified or associated with any religion or community, he said. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir hailed the employees of the varsity for passing the Prabodh, Praveen and Pragya courses. He said the employees have evinced keen interest in learning the language.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, gave a detailed resume of the measures taken by the university to promote Hindi among the staff. He said that besides administrative staff, some of the faculty members have also expressed willingness to learn Hindi. Prof. Zargar said that the employees are fast learning Hindi and would soon do their official work in that language.
Former Head of Department of Hindi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Prof. Vinod Taneja, traced the history of Hindi and said the language has evolved over the period of time. Prof. Tanejha asked the employees to use simple Hindi words and avoid tougher ones. The main aim while writing and speaking the language should be to communicate to others in easy way, he added. He complimented the Raj Bhasha Cell for organizing the function.
Hindi Adhikari, Ms. Sakina Akhter conducted the programme proceedings and informed the participants about the steps taken by the Rajbhasha Cell for Hindi promotion.
Later the Vice-Chancellor, distributed prizes and certificates among the employees who secured first three positions during the examinations conducted in Hindi Pakhwara.
Private Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Mir Naveed bagged the first prize of Rs 2500 while as Laboratory Attendant, Mr. Irfan Muhammad bagged the second prize of Rs 2000. The third prize of Rs 1500 was bagged by the Assistant Administration Section, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal. The VC also distributed participation
