ShopianDistrict Development Commissioner Shopian Mohammad Aijaz Asad, today chaired a meeting of district and sectoral officers to discuss issues pertaining to disaster management.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE and flood control, Chief Education Officer, Sports Officer, Chief Medical Officer, besides all District and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
Threadbare discussion was held on a number of issues ranging from establishment of full-fledged district disaster management centre, availability of necessary men and machinery, civil defence volunteers and availability of a full-fledged disaster plan
On the occasion, DDC asked the district officers about the recent inventory circulated by NDMA and SDMA for formulation of a comprehensive plan. He urged upon the officers to provide factual details after proper field survey so that a plan may be prepared and strategy for procurement of needed machinery can be finalised.
DDC further revealed that a full-fledged disaster management centre has been established at Shopian with all requisite facilities. He urged upon all the officers to work with closed coordination so that quick response is ensured in case of any eventuality. It was also decided in the meeting that a mock drill shall be conducted on a regular basis.
The meeting was given out that 5-day training programme on community disaster preparedness from16 to 21st September 2017 will be conducted at meeting hall of Mini Secretariat, Arhama, Shopian.
