SrinagarThe Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly under the Chairmanship of MLA Mohammad Ashraf Mir Wednesday visited the SMHS Karan Nagar, Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh and G B Pant hospital Sonawar Srinagar and took stock the overall functioning of these hospitals.
The members of the Committee comprised Vikar Rasool Wani, Abdul Majeed Padder, Altaf Ahmed Wani, Yawar Ahmed Mir and Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, besides Principal Secretary Health & Medical Education, Mr. Pawan Kotwal, Principal Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr. Samira Rashid also accompanied the Committee.
The Committee inspected the various units and wards of the hospitals including Surgical operation theater and took stock of the availability of Oxygen facilities in these hospitals. The Committee also interacted with the patients, attendants and enquired about the medicine and other facilities being provided to them by the hospital authorities.
Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh, Dr. Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent, SMHS Dr. Nazir Chowdhary, Medical Superintendent G B Pant Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh briefed the committee about the functioning of the hospitals and urged upon the Committee that the budget allocation of the hospitals should be enhanced.
The authorities of SMHS Hospital informed the committee about the upcoming oxygen plant to be constructed at an estimated Rs. 13 crore and it was given out that DPR for same has already been submitted for the approval. The Committee also informed about the status of the number of surgery units functioning in the hospitals. The committee stressed upon the concerned authorities to expedite the process of surgeries so that waiting list in the hospital is reduced drastically. The Chairman of the Committee announced Rs. 5 lakh from his CDF to augment the existing oxygen supply of G.B Pant hospital. The Committee also stressed upon the concerned authorities to provide approved grant of Rs. 30 lakh for up- gradation of oxygen plant in the G.B to avoid any untoward incident.
HoD Pediatric Department, G B Pant Hospital Dr Qaiser, HoD Dr. Muzaffar Jan and other senior doctors of the hospitals, besides senior officers of Assembly Secretariat also accompanied the Committee during the visit.
