BudgamLawyers in Budgam Friday protested against possible scrapping of Article 35-A of Indian constitution that provides special privileges to Jammu and Kashmir citizens.
District Bar Association Budgam (DBAB) led a protest march from court complex to main chowk Budgam.
Dozens of lawers raising slogans in favor of the Article said, “We are ready to face bullets for saving Article 35-A.”
They said that India was trying to keep people of Kashmir busy with many issues including Article 35-A, Article 370 and Beef ban.

Addressing the gathering of lawyers and locals at main chowk, president DBAB Mohammad Ashraf said, “I appeal to all the regions of the state to come and join hands against sinister designs of government who wants to abrogate this Article.”
He said people of the state must be educated about 35-A which does not allow non-locals to buy immovable property in J&K.
He warned that by scrapping Article 35-A, “people of the state would face serious ramifications.”
“By abrogating 35-A, they (India) want to infringe in our day to day lives which we won’t allow,” Ashraf added.
He requested all citizens of the state including policemen, traders and civilians to come forward and play a constructive role in saving it.

Syed Rafiq Rashid a young advocate said, “Central as well as state government is hell bent upon to change the nomenclature and demography of Kashmir.”
He said that, “India is trying to snatch all the opportunities from the citizens of valley.”
A female lawyer Ishrat Irshad said they are protesting because they want to save Article 35-A at any cost.

On the occasion , lawyers and locals also chanted pro-freedom slogans including Yeh Kashmir hamara hai, is ka faisla hum karay gay, (This Kashmir belongs to us, we shall decide its fate).
Earlier, Joint Resistance Leadership had asked lawyers to protest against the attempts being made to abrogate Article 35-A .
