SrinagarWhile condemning the killing of Shahid Bashir Wani of Daril Ramhal, a student of Degree College Handwara, in a fake encounter, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today asked for how long fake encounter incidents would be repeated in Kashmir.
Why don’t authorities learn lessons from previous fake encounters? The 2010 unrest was the creation of Machil fake encounter in which three civilians were killed and dubbed as foreign militants. Now again a fake encounter has been done. It alienates people further and will have serious consequences. It adds fuel to the fire as already Valley is undergoing through turmoil, he said in a statement.
We would have demanded an enquiry and probe into the latest incident. But unfortunately, the enquires and probes have lost their credibility as even the enquiry reports aren’t being implemented on the ground. The Machil fake encounter case is the prime example. It was a national shame. Authorities should read the writing on the wall and ensure they do not repeat the same mistakes time and again. The prestige of institutions is lowered down by such incidents. Governments have to be answerable. Those who stage fake encounters in the name of the security (of the country), and others involved in it have to be brought to justice.
