SrinagarThe Joint Resistance Leadership on Wednesday issued a protest programme to resist what it termed as attempts to abrogate Article 35-A which protects special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The leadership has also called for a shutdown on August 29.
In a statement issued here the leadership, comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik said, Any meddling with state subject law is only aimed at changing the demography of Jammu Kashmir. This issue is directly related to our right of self determination and so we all need to fight for it with unity and steadfastness.
This is a matter of life and death for us and we will spill our blood to safeguard it, the leaders said in a joint statement.
Announcing a comprehensive protest program in view of the Supreme Court hearing about 35 A, on 29th August 2017, the troika said that on Friday, 25th August 2017, Kashmir Bar Association will hold peaceful protest demonstration against conspiracies to finish state subject law.
District bar associations will also hold protests at their respective places on the same day.
All civil society, traders bodies, religious and social organizations will organize peaceful protests on Saturday 26th August 2017.
Kashmiri Diaspora living across the globe in UK, USA, Europe, Middle East and Pakistan will organize protests on Sunday, 27th August 2017.
People of ‘Azad Kashmir will also hold protest demonstrations on the same day.
On Monday, 28th August 2017, Kashmiris living across globe will register their protest on social media by signing a petition in this connection.
Students across Kashmir will also hold protests on the same day.
On Tuesday, 29th August 2017, the day when Indian Supreme Court is hearing this case, A complete and comprehensive protest strike will be observed throughout J&K and if Indian Supreme Court issues any adverse orders in this regard a complete agitation will start from that very moment.
Joint resistance leadership said that “RSS backed Indian rulers are hatching conspiracies to change the demography of Jammu Kashmir.”
Hurriyat (G) Holds Meet
Hurriyat Conference (G) on Wednesday convened a meeting of its executive body (Majlis Shoora) at Hyderpora to assess situation after recent raids by NIA.
The representatives of all its constituents, including Hakim Ab Rashid (Muslim Democratic League, Bilal Sidiqee (Tehreek-e-Mazahmat) Mohammad Yusuf Mir (Muslim League), Mohammad Yusuf Naqash (Islamic political Party), Mohammad Yasin Attai (Peoples League), Yasmeen Raja (Muslim Khawateen Markaz ) Mohammad Yusuf Nadeem (Tehreek-e-Wahdat Islami) , Zamrooda Habib (Tehreek-e-Khawateen) Iqbal Shaheen (Gojar Pahari Forum ), Syed Mohammad Shafi (Peoples League), Firdous Ahmad (DPM), Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani (Mass Movement ), Bashir Ahmad Andrabi, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan ( Peoples Freedom League) , Gh Nabi Sumji (Muslim Conference ) & Gh Ahmad Gulzar (Insaf Party) attended the meeting.
The participants pledged to carry the ongoing freedom movement to its logical end and it was observed that Huriyat Conference, despite all odds, will pursue their mission for right to self-determination until the Kashmir issue is resolved as per UN resolutions and aspirations of people.
The meeting reviewed the concept of future strategy & work plans and the participants discussed the prevailing grim situation in state and reiterated their pledge to forge unity among its constituent units and fight tooth and nail the political, economic and cultural aggression at all levels.
All constituent members while hailing the selfless services rendered by Syed Ali Geelani condemned the disinformation campaign launched by NIA against him and his family members.
Referring to NIA raids, they said that all these state sponsored tactics and coercive measures wont deter us from pursuing our mission, nor these coercions, suppressive and aggressive measures will make us to surrender.
In his presidential address Syed Ali Geelani while rejecting the Indian stand on Kashmir said that it is unrealistic and against all historical facts and hence India is occupying our state purely through its military might.
Geelani stressed members to forge close and intact relations with people and asked members to apprise them about the deceit being played by pro-Indian politicians about article 370 & 35 A.
Geelani appointed Ghulam Nabi Sumji as Secretary General, Mohammad Yousuf Mir as Deputy Secretary General and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar as chief spokesman for Hurriyat Conference.
