AnantnagUmmat e Islami Saturday protested against the continuous detention of its chairman and Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir and demanded his immediate release.
Qazi Yasir was arrested on July 8 when he was on way to Tral – the native village of commander Burhan Wani. A party spokesperson said that the members of the party led by Maulana Aijaz Noori, Tehsil President Pampore and preacher at the Jamia Masjid Wuyan protested against the long custody of Qazi Yasir.
Addressing the gathering, Maulana Noori said that Qazi Yasir has been in custody without any case lodged against him.
“This is basic human rights violation and the authorities need to answer for his detention for last 42 days. He has been barred from performing his religious duties as the Mirwaiz of South Kashmir and stopped from addressing the Jamia Masjid for last six Fridays in a row. Such curbs on religious freedom was only an attempt to stop him from working for the Kashmir movement,” he said.
He also disclosed that the party has planned to launch series of protests across the villages and towns against the arrest of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir.
