SrinagarPolice on Saturday arrested one person and seized 30 barrels, each containing 200 liters of diesel and petrol from his possession in Chowkibal area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“Based on specific information, police station Kralpora during a raid at Chowkibal area seized 30 barrels (each containing 200 liters) of diesel/petrol at a time when the consignment was being unloaded from a truck bearing registration no. JK02V -8869”, a police official said in a statement.
The huge consignment of diesel/petrol was being smuggled in the open market illegally by one, Zahoor Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Ahad Lone of Pangzam Kralpora Kupwara. Lone is the owner/driver of the vehicle, the official said, adding that Zahoor has been arrested and the vehicle has also been seized.
A case FIR no. 80/2017 u/s 23 petroleum act, 3/7 Essential Commodities Act has been registered in police station Kralpora and further investigation taken up, the official said, adding that more arrests are expected in the case in next few days.
Meanwhile, SSP Kupwara Shamsheer Hussain has constituted a special team for investigation of the case so as to ascertain the source of consignment and from where it was brought so as to unveil illegal trade wholly, the official said.
The SSP also sought the co-operation of general public for exposing this illegal trade in the frontier district, the statement said. it has been reliable know that police was looking into possibility of pilferage in locals units of armed forces.
