SRINAGAR- Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq Friday said that unless the Kashmir issue was resolved in line with the aspirations of Kashmiris, killing one militant will only produce 10 more.
Mirwaiz was addressing the weekly congregation at Jamia Masjid Srinagar after being released from 57 days of continuous house arrest on Friday.
Aggression and repression can never resolve issues but only aggravate them.
As long as there is repression and force as the state response, you may kill one (militant), but 10 more will stand up.”

The Kashmirs head priest said that each day young educated boys are being killed and there is a belief in some circles that once all of them are killed the problem will be over. But they forget that these boys took to arms as a reaction to repression and for the resolution of the dispute and as long as there is repression and force as state response, killings wont help.
He said that this was evident during massive funeral prayers of the slain militants.
Mirwaiz said the agitation and protests by students in colleges and universities across the valley that force the state to frequently shut them down, again indicates as to how the youth of Kashmir see the situation and their reaction to it.
Mirwaiz said for the past 70 years people of Kashmir are born and raised with the fact that Kashmir is a disputed place waiting for a final resolution and the fact has its foundation in the highest world body, the United Nations.
Mirwaiz said the people of Kashmir were waiting for a final resolution of their political problem which alone, he added, will end their suffering.
He said a resolution of the issue was possible provided there was a willingness to accept facts with compassion, humanity and mutual respect.
Mirwaiz said: I once again appeal the people in India to see Kashmir not as a piece of real estate nor as a territorial dispute between two hostile neighbours but as a human issue concerning hundreds of thousands of people and divided families hanging fire since the last 70 years, leading to great suffering and loss of life on all sides that begs for a just resolution.
Pertinently, authorities on Friday lifted the six-week-long house arrest restrictions imposed on the Mirwaiz after which he offered Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid and delivered his weekly sermon.
