SrinagarAngered over continuing water shortage for the last eight months the residents of Sanzipora in the Langate constituency represented by Er Rashid in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday hostage the concerned Junior Engineer (JE) early in the morning when he appeared in the locality for routine duty.
Residents of Sanzipora in Langate constituency badly hit by water shortage for the last more than eight months dragged the Junior Engineer of the locality as soon as he appeared for routine duty and pushed him into shop where he has been locked from outside.
Reports said he is still locked up in the shop as the residents are furious over the negligence of the concerned officials in restoration of water supply to the affected populations.
The Awami Itihad Party (AIP) Block President Khursheed Ahmad Dar under the instructions of Er Rashid tried to pacify the protestors but they did not allow him to get Junior Engineer locked up in a shop freed.
The stalemate was continuing till the last reports came in.
It has been learned that about ten villages of Langate constituency are suffering from acute shortage of water for the last eight months but the concerned officials of PHE department are paying no heed to the public outcry in the area.
The villages hit by water shortage include Nowgam, Sanzipora, Lawoosa, Reshwari, Yahama, Drungsoo, Prungroo, Audoora, Drungsoo, Cheak-e-Audoora and Warpora. (KNS)
