SrinagarPiling up pressure on Hurriyat Conference, National Investigation Agency (NIA) Monday summoned Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelanis second son to Delhi for questioning in the alleged terror funding case.
NIA has now summoned Syed Naseem Geelani, Hurriyat leaders younger son for questioning, ANI reported quoting unnamed NIA sources.
Geelani’s elder son Syed Naeem Geelani, who was scheduled to appear before the NIA in Delhi, was on Sunday admitted to the ICU at SKIMS hospital here after complaining of severe chest pain.
Reports said that the central anti-terror agency asked Naseem Geelani to appear before it at its headquarters on Wednesday and also reissued summons to his elder brother Naeem Geelani, a doctor by profession, as he failed to appear in response to the NIA’s earlier notice calling him on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the NIA also raided the ancestral home of Jammu based advocate Devender Singh Behal, in Nowshera town of Rajouri district, a day after arresting him over suspected involvement in the funding case.
NIA sources said Behal, who is considered close to Geelani and is regularly seen at funerals of slain militants, was being questioned for his role in the funding.
On July 24, the NIA arrested seven Hurriyat activists Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Meraj Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Naeem Khan and Farooq Ahmad alias Bitta Karate. They all were later sent to 10-day NIA custody.
The accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The NIA visited Srinagar in May to probe the alleged funding by Pakistan for illegal activities in Kashmir, and questioned several separatist leaders on the issue of raising, collecting and transferring funds via the Hawala route and other channels.
The NIA sleuths specifically questioned separatist leaders Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate, Gazi Javed Baba at that time. The trio had admitted in a TV sting operation about the funds they were receiving from Pakistan.
