Srinagar: Twenty four hours after police prevented moderate Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq from talking to press, journalists were Sunday barred from attending a press conference called by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
Geelani had called for a press conference at his Hyderpora residence in order to respond to allegations levelled against him and his family by the New Delhi based media and National Investigative Agency (NIA).
“The press conference was called to aware the nation and the world about the reality of these allegations but the police and the state administration prevented the press conference and didnt allow the media to enter the residence of Syed Ali Geelani”, a Hurriyat (G) statement released later said. “The police and the state-administration, in a bid to appease their masters in New-Delhi sealed off the entire residence-cum-office of Syed Ali Geelani and didnt allow anybody to enter or to leave the office premises”, the statement added.
Hurriyat Conference said that the police and the state administration too were interested in keeping people in dark and prevent the truth from reaching to public, it said adding this was a bid to provide room to the ‘biased’ Indian media to continue with their campaign of character assassination of the pro-freedom leadership of Kashmir.
Hurriyat Conference said that the pro-freedom leadership should also get a chance to counter the ‘baseless’ and ‘venomous’ allegations of the Indian media against them, but the state police and administration did exactly the opposite.
Hurriyat Conference (G) said that Indian authorities resorted to character assassination of pro-freedom leadership and added that engaging agencies like NIA was aimed at defaming and delegitimising the real representative character of the resistance camp.
Hurriyat (G) said that the reports & details of properties prepared by NIA, were fraudulent and that biased media was propagating & promoting cooked up and fabricated stories.
“Syed Ali Geelani always resisted and resents the Indian hegemony and hence authorities out of frustration were resorting to these under hand means and even tried to assassinate him”, Hurriyat (G) alleged.
“After they failed to cow down his spirits, authorities feel desperate to malign freedom movement and thus services of NIA are being utilized to create a negative impression about Syed Ali Geelani”.
Hurriyat Conference clarified that Syed Ali Geelani never followed his political carrier as a means for trade, material gains or for his livelihood, instead pursued his mission likewise that of obligatory prayers.
Hurriyat (G) declared that resistance leadership never felt shy or was afraid of any accountability in public.
Denying any unauthorized, illegal or disproportionate property being in his (Geelani’s) custody, Hurriyat said that his daughters are married while as his two sons including Dr. Nayeem Gilani, and Naseem Gilani, have no illegal assets.
“Indian authorities, under a well thought out plan, have framed conspiracies; however, we are neither afraid nor will we give up our mission”, said Hurriyat.
Denying the reports of NIA about properties allegedly amassed by Syed Ali Geelani and pro-freedom leadership, Hurriyat said that it was considering the details and will come with the actual figures to aware people and world community about the misinformation campaign and malicious propaganda.
