Srinagar: State government, Jammu and Kashmir police and even the state Intelligence Bureau (IB) were caught off-guard, only coming to know from TV news that seven Hurriyat leaders were being flown to Delhi, a news channel reported.
Jammu and Kashmir government was reluctant to allow the seven arrested Hurriyat leaders to be moved to Delhi by National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, India Today claimed.
As the NIA sleuths were to fly the separatists, Srinagar police officers reached the Srinagar airport.
According to the report, the cops told the NIA team that the Hurriyat leaders can’t be flown out. They said the paperwork is incomplete for taking away the separatist leaders.
MHA issued clear directions that the Hurriyat leaders need to be shifted to Delhi. Reluctantly, the state government allowed Hurriyat leaders to be flown out of Kashmir, India Today reported. It was only after officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs intervened that the impasse ended.
The decision to arrest Kashmiri leaders was taken by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at least a week before. Except for a handful of team members who were part of the team, not a single word was even murmured. The NIA DG sent two Inspector Generals (IG) – Anil Shukla the supervising officer in the case and senior officer GP Singh – to coordinate the arrest in Srinagar. The duo were leading a team of at least 25 people, with 4 SP-rank officers, according to the report.
Since the case involved separatists, the details were kept “Top Secret”. The Mehbooba Mufti government, Jammu and Kashmir police and even the state Intelligence Bureau (IB) was caught off-guard, only coming to know from news breaking on TV sets.
The NIA has got 10-day custody of those arrested to probe the separatists on funding.
