SrinagarFormer Aussie great Adam Ghilchrist was huge impressed by the talent and potential of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Women cricket team, an official statement issued Wednesday said. Last month, a batch of young women cricketers interacted and played an exhibition match with Ghilchrist at Australian embassy in New Delhi.
The interaction was made possible by Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh Mattoo who has been long associated with building Indo-Aussies relationship specifically in education.
According to the statement, Australian Government has appreciated the role of Prof Amitabh Mattoo for his contribution in the field of education and appreciated his role in building important knowledge partnerships between India and Australia.
In a letter of appreciation from the Department of Education and Training, Australian Government, Dr Amanda Day, Counselor, Education and Research has thanked Prof Amitabh Mattoo for his support and his close coordination during the recent visit of Adam Gilchrist to India.
Last month, Women’s cricket team from Jammu and Kashmir played an exhibition match at Australian High Commission ground. The highlight of the friendly game was the presence of former swashbuckling wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist who all the way had come from Australia to interact with young women cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir. The event was organized by Government of Jammu and Kashmir and Australia-India Institute, New Delhi and was coordinated by Prof Amitabh Mattoo.
Dr Amanda while lauding the role of Prof Amitabh Mattoo said that the friendly match between J&K CM’s Women’s Cricket Eleven and Jesus and Marry College has encouraged the idea of women and leadership in sports. “It was a great pleasure to witness the enthusiastic players from J&K CM’s Women’s Cricket Eleven who have immense potential to achieve their dreams in the supporting fields,” she said adding that Gilchrist was extremely impressed with the performance of J&K CM’s Women’s Cricket Eleven.
While appreciating the role of Prof Amitabh Mattoo in the field of Education and Research, Dr Amanda said “I would also like to thank you for your help in organizing the students interaction at Kirorimal College with Mr. Gilchrist on, “Life of a Sportsperson”, which enables many young students to look at sports education with a positive prospective.
