SrinagarA criminal was on Saturday sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment by a court after being found guilty of raping his daughter.
Besides sentencing the convict, N A Sheikh, a resident of Old City, the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Srinagar Sham Lal Lalhal also ordered government to pay Rs three lakh as compensation to the victim girl. Sheikh was last year sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape his minor daughter.
While seeking maximum punishment to the convict, the prosecution argued before court that the convict has committed heinous offence and that too upon his own daughter due to which the the victim has experienced mental trauma and her future and life has been spoiled and ruined by the convict who was supposed to up bring, look after and protect her.
The act of the convict is highly reprehensible and though he is aged and has remained in judicial lockup, but he does not deserve any sympathetic view since he has attempted to commit rape with his own helpless minor daughter. It is also in the interest of society at large to impose appropriate sentence upon the convict so that no father may do such a shameful act with his own daughter, the court had observed when the Sheikh was convicted previously.
