Kulgam:- The residents of Pahloo and Sachin villages in Devsar tehsil of Kulgam district are up in arms against alleged apathy of the district administration.
Residents Thursday staged protests raising slogans against the Roads & Buildings (R&B) department.
The 5-kilometer-long Pahloo-Sachin road, which has not been macadamized during past 15 years, is dotted with countless potholes.
This is the only connecting road of village Sachin with Devsar Kulgam and other villages.
“We have fallen prey to political rivalry in terms of development, hence we are lagging behind. The pathetic condition of the road has caused deaths of many villagers, especially pregnant women who could not reach hospitals on time, said Muhammad Yusuf Mir.
Another resident Ali Mohammad Mir said that Due to bad condition of road and lack of proper drainage system, the commuters are facing problems. This problem manifolds during rainy season, thus making roads accident prone, he said.
The residents accused authorities of turning a deaf ear to their numerous complaints.
Some residents accused officials of R&B Department of sectarian bias.
What else will explain the apathy shown towards just these two villages, Mir asked.
Meanwhile when contacted to the Executive Engineer R&B Qazigund, Showkat Ahmad told Kashmir Observer, that it has been placed on top priority and assured that the road will be properly macadamized very soon.
