KupwaraThe Sub District Hospital of Kralgund in Kupwara district lacks adequate healthcare facilities which is forcing the people of the area to travel long distances for treatment.
The hospital caters to a huge population, mostly of Kralgund and adjoining areas including, Sopornaghama, Sahipora, Kahipora, Mandigam, Pazalpora etc. However, it lacks staff, infrastructure, proper space and key diagnostic facilities. The hospital even doesn’t have alternative source of electricity once light is gone.
The hospital witnesses heavy rush of patients. According to official records, on an average more than 100 patients visit it regularly. The hospital refers every accident case to Baramulla and Handwara Hospital. “There are no sufficient doctors and paramedics to attend to the ever-increasing number of patients,” said Abdur Rashid, a resident of Mandigam.
Rashid said most of the patients have to visit Handwara or Baramula hospitals in case they need to undergo MRI and CT scan as the diagnostic facilities are not available at hospital.
