Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police has sought help to identify the culprits involved in the lynching of Deputy SP Mohammad Ayoub Pandit. DySP Mohammad Ayoub, a resident of Nowpora, Srinagar, who was on access control duty at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta was cornered by an unlawful assembly of people and was lynched to death last week.
In this regard a case under section 302 RPC was registered and investigation was taken up. To speed up the investigation process, a special investigating team was also constituted.
“To nab all the criminal involved in the incident, the head of special investigating team has requested that if anyone having any knowledge or clue regarding the incident may please attend the office of SP, City North Srinagar. The name and particulars of the said person(s) shall remain confidential,” said Police Spokesperson Manoj Pandita.
Five of the 12 persons identified in connection with the crime had been arrested so far. A Special Investigation Team, headed by a senior police officer, has been formed to investigate the lynching and submit its report on a fast-track basis.
The lynching of the DSP has drawn outrage in the valley, with people terming the incident barbaric and anti-humanity. This is the first time such an incident has occurred in the valley. Agencies
