SrinagarWomen protesters Wednesday staged a protest in Srinagar demanded the release of wounded youth Bashir Ahmed Bhat detained in connection with police officers lynching case.
A large number of women from Sakadafar Safakadal emerged here in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that police have been denying them access to the detained youth Bashir Ahmed Bhat who according to protesters is a Salesman at a showroom in Goa.
Pertinently, DySP Muhammad Ayoub Pandith was lynched to death by a mob after he fired from his pistol injuring at least three youth.
Bashir Ahmed Bhat had gone to offer Shab at Jamia Masjid. The commotion outside mosque attracted his attention and as he reached the spot, he received a bullet. After spending three days at SKIMS, he was discharged while a police party from Safakadal Police Station arrived at his house asking him to present himself before police for questioning. The Bazar Committee and Mohalla Committee handed him over to the police personnel at Safakadal Police Station and till date we dont know about his whereabouts, the protesters told news agency CNS.
They said that police head at Safakadal Police Station informed them that Bashir has been shifted to Police Station Nowhatta. When we reached Police Station Nowhatta with medicines and food, we were denied a meeting as the officer said that he is not lodged in the Station, said protesters.
Police have implicated Bashir in a false case. Those who killed police officer in self-defence are free while innocents have been arrested, they said and demanded the release of the detained youth.
