SrinagarA policeman on Tuesday deposed before a court here in connection with the 2013 murder of Suhail Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Doabgah village in north Kashmirs Sopore area.
According to police, on 19 March 2013 at about 21:45 hours, Suhail, who was sitting with another youthGhulam Hyder son of Ali Muhammed resident of Doabgah in the ground near local mosque when he was fired upon by some unknown militants.
Son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi, the youth however, escaped the bullets and ran for cover toward the mosque and hid himself in its Hamaam. One unidenftied militant chased him and pumped five bullets, killing him on the spot.
An FIR (no. 48/2013) under section 302 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act was lodged at Police Station Sopore against accused Hafiz Naveed Baloch alias Fahadullah of Shujabad Multan Pakistan and Feroze Ahmed Dar of Alsafa Colony Sopore for killing the youth.
Hafiz Naveed Baloch, a top most Commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was arrested in Sopore in 2013 along with weapons.
The court recorded statement of Constable Hyder Ali, who deposed that the weapon of offence was actually seized by Police Station Dangiwacha, Baramulla which was later handed over to SHO Sopore on on by court orders and a seizure memo in front of him was prepared by the SHO.
During the course of investigation, one foreign militant was arrested in connection with the killing. On his instance, another suspect namely Feroz Ahmed Dar was arrested and a Chinese pistol with magazine was recovered from him. During questioning, police said, Fahadullah confessed that he has handed over Chinese pistol to his close associate Feroz Ahmed Dar who killed Suhail with a pistol. The duo is lodged at central Jail Srinagar from 2013.
This case has been transferred from district court Baramulla to district court Srinagar on March 30, 2016. The court had earlier directed deputy inspector general of police (north Kashmir range) to withhold salary of Station House Officer (SHO) of Sopore police station till the time he executes warrants in a murder case against the witnesses and produces them before the court on next hearing. The court on May 27 issued bail-able warrant against retired SHO of Sopore after he failed to produce witnesses in the court in connection with proceedings of a murder case.
