Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid Saturday said the killing of Junaid Mattu, a Lashkar commander is a big achievement for police and vowed to track down other militants responsible for the death of six policemen in Achbal ambush on Friday.
We had specific information about the presence of militants, we cordoned off the area and later three militants were eliminated, DGP told reporters at District Police Lines, Srinagar when asked about the encounter at Arwani.
He said that, unfortunately there was a little law and order incident from the village-side but when the stone pelting was taking place the forces were fired upon by the militants. The forces had no option to retaliate, thereby resulted in the loss of two civilian lives, which security forces wanted to avoid, he added.
Asked about the significance of top Junaid Mattos killing, DGP said, Junaids killing is a great achievement for us and a blow to LeT.
He also said perpetrators of Achbal attack will be brought to book and they will face the law.
DGP said: The perpetrators who killed the six policemen including a senior cop would be brought to book and they will face the law. People will very soon see the results.
Saying that unfortunate Achabal incident has been committed by Lashkar-e-Taiba led by Bashir Lashkari, DGP said, We will track him down and see that justice is done.
Asked about the disfiguring of bodies of the slain cops, DGP said, As far my information, the militants came closer to the cops and targeted them.
Referring to a query about non-bullet proof vehicle of SHO in which he was travelling in, DGP said, We are taking steps in this regard..
