Srinagar: Police Saturday detained the president of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturing Federation (KTMF), Muhammad Yasin Khan after he along with his members was on way to Civil Secretariat to protest against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in J&K.
Khan along with scores of members was detained at clock tower (Ganta Ghar) Lal Chowk to thwart them from marching towards the civil secretariat.
Earlier, the protesters assembled at clock tower and staged sit-in there.
Talking to reporters Khan said that the protest is aimed to warn the government over implementing the GST in the state. The governments GST theory, one tax one India is unacceptable to us. We wont allow the government to implement the Indian law in the state at any cost as the Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and is enjoying its own constitution and powers.
He said that the GST implementation is aimed to infringe the special status of JK. We are against the government move and will oppose it tooth and nail, he said.
Khan said that the implementation of GST in the state would affect the business community here and it would certainly deteriorate the situation.
He also said that KTMF will decide future strategy once the government clear picture over the implementation of GST.
Meanwhile, the protesters later tried to march towards Civil Secretariat.
However, police swung into the action and detained scores of KTMF members including its president.
Pertinently, the traders today observed complete shutdown against the GST implementation. (KNS)
