Kupwara: A family from far-flung Tangdar Karnah area of frontier district Kupwara is mulling to migrate to Pakistan as according to them corrupt officials and politicians has made their life miserable from past one year.
There is an extensive rot in the administration in Jammu and Kashmir. I have decided to migrate to Pakistan along with my family. I cant take it anymore. The corrupt officials and the politicians are sucking our blood in this border area while authorities dont bother to make them accountable, Muhammad Qasim Sheikh, a contractor told local newsgathering agency CNS.
Sheikh said that tender work to construct Water Supply Scheme Lontha, Sathphalls was allotted to him by Public Health Engineering Department against the cost of Rs 61.00 lakh in 2016 while till date he has already completed 50% of work on the scheme.
To my shock and surprise I was forced to stop my work as I didnt agree to grease the palms of the brother of incumbent legislator who is also a PHE employee. Raja Zameer, the brother of PDP MLA Raja Manzoor along with other PHE officials have been continuously demanding bribe from me, he said.
Due to stoppage of work on the water supply scheme, at least 15, 000 inhabitants from different hamlets of Karnah including Lontha, Kandi, Dildar, Batapora, Chhummkot have been affected. The PHE Division has become the hub of corruption in Karnah. Without greasing the palm of officials no work gets done. If action is not initiated against the corrupt officials, we will be left with no option but to migrate to other part of Kashmir, he said.
