Srinagar: One civilian was critically injured on Thursday night as government forces opened fire on protesting mob in Rangreth area on the outskirts of the city, police said.
A group of youth pelted the security forces vehicles with stones at Rangreth, a police official said.
The security personnel opened fire to chase away the protestors, resulting in injuries to one person, the official said.
Naseer Ahmad, 22, was rushed to SKIMS hospital at Soura in a critical condition, he said. Naseer a resident of Bandipore has received bullet in his chest, doctors at SKIMS Bemina said and referred him to SKIMS Soura after first aid. His condition was described as critical.
Residents at Rangreth said the Sashshtra Seema Bal (SSB) were withdrawing from the day long duty when they came under attack by a mob.
SSB personnel fired at Naseer while he was standing at a shop front, residents alleged.
