Srinagar: Two civilians were injured on Friday when army personnel opened fire on their vehicle after, according to police, it failed to stop at a check-point in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district.
Reports said that the civilians were heading towards Ahem Sharif shrine for Friday prayers when they came under fire at a barricade erected by soldiers in Chek Reshipora village of the district.
A naka party of the army’s 14 Rashtriya Rifles singled them to stop their vehicle at a check-point in Check Reshipora, a police official said.
The driver ignored the signal and tried to speed away when the jawans manning the post opened fire, official claimed.
Fayaz Ahmad and Muzafar Ahmad, both residents of Qazipora area of the district, who were travelling in the car, received bullet injuries on their arms and legs, the official said.
Both the injured were shifted to District Hospital Bandipore for treatment where from they were shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment.
The condition of both the injured is stated to be stable.
Youth killed in SSB firing laid to rest
Bandipore: Some parts of North Kashmirs Bandipore district observed a complete shutdown against the killing of a youth by Indian forces in Srinagar city.
On Thursday evening, during clashes, a 22-year-old youth Naseer Ahmad Sheikh was killed after Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel opened fire to disperse protesters who pelted them with stones in Rangreth area of Srinagar city. Naseer hailed from Ashtengo Bandipore but was currently putting up at Rangreth.
A large number of mourners participated in the last rites of the slain youth. The youth was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans at his native Ashtengoo village.

Mourners participating in the last rites of a policeman, who police said was killed in a militant attack in Hyderpora area of Srinagar Thursday night, raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, reports said.

Shahzad Ahmed Sofi, 30, son of Late Dilwar Ahmad of Lonepora Ashtengoo (Belt No. 666) of North Kashmir’s Bandipore district was killed and his associate Manzoor Ahmed was injured when suspected militants attacked a police party at Hyderpora in uptown Srinagar on Thursday evening.
The slain cop was laid to rest in presence of large number of people at his native graveyard. Witnesses said that hundreds of people who participated in the funeral prayers raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans during the funeral. (CNS)
