SrinagarProvincial Qawwali Competition was conducted at Tagore Hall here on Wednesday, in which 5 teams from different schools of Valley participated. Qaiser Nizami, Rehmatullah Khan, GM Hakeem and Rashid Jehangir, renowned personalities from the music world were judges. Students from various schools of Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora, Kulgam and Shopian districts performed today. Students from the other districts of Kashmir valley will perform at the same venue tomorrow.
The qawwali contest, which proved to be a crowd puller, was arranged by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with School Education Department Kashmir. Winners of the contest will be given cash prizes on the culmination event scheduled for 17th of this month. The rendition of Sufi songs by these budding artists enthralled the audience who greeted them with thundering rounds of applause.
Todays performance was preceded by welcome address by Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini who announced that Academy will be holding such events in other fields of performing arts also in the months ahead.
