SrinagarThe Department of Mathematics, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized an extension lecture for its students on the topic Distribution of Primes at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here Tuesday.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Akhlaq Hussain, Associate Professor Department of Mathematics, BML Munjal University Gurgaon.
The speaker discussed a collection of elementary results on Number Theory with focus on the structure and randomness in prime numbers along with some recent developments in searching the patterns among primes. The particular attention was given to the Greens-Tau theorem (2004) which guarantees the existence of arbitrary long arithmetic progressions of primes.
The speaker also emphasized some applications and a few open problems in the subject. The lecture was attended by all the students and the faculty members of the department. The programme proceedings were conducted by Mr. Gulam Mohammad Sofi, Assistant Professor.
