Srinagar: Valley based tourism players on Monday alleged that certain Delhi based news channels were portraying Kashmir in negative way under a well planned manner to crush our economy.
Addressing a press conference here, people associated with Kashmir tourism industry alleged that some select news channels were hell-bent on crushing state economy by portraying Kashmir in negative way in their news debates from dawn to dusk.
Taking a jibe at the central government for supporting what they termed as pseudo-nationalist news channels, they alleged that these channels in order to increase their TRP continuously spew venom against Kashmir and Kashmiris.
Chairman Houseboat Owners Association, Ghulam Rasool Siyah while appealing people to boycott these channels said, they have been enjoying patronage of the government and some political parties whose aim is to crush Kashmirs economy
Siyah said these acts not only have affected tourism trade in Kashmir but in Jammu and Ladakh as well besides raising fingers over the hospitality of the people of Kashmir they are famous for the world over.
We need suggestions and ideas to tackle this sensitive issue which has taken toll on the economy of the state, he said.
Such channels need to be stopped from airing anti Kashmir propaganda and it is the responsibility of the state government to exert a pull on them to stop blurting rubbish about Kashmir for their dirty TRP, Siyah said.
He further claimed that non-state actors were active in spoiling the tourist season in Kashmir.
Manzoor Ahmad Pakhtoon, Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Alliance (JKTA) alleged that the police for unknown reasons were harassing tourists at Sonamarg. (CNS)
Fake reporting part of conspiracy: KEA
The Kashmir Economic Alliance Monday termed the NIA raids on business houses in Kashmir and the related fake reporting by some New Delhi based channels a conspiracy to crush economy of Kashmir.
Chairman Muhammad Yasin Khan, who also heads the Kashmir Traders and Manufactures Federation (KTMF) said after wounding the people of Kashmir through human rights abuse the government wants the economic activities to stop and it was because of this that some businessmen have either been raided or their names have been falsely reported by a section of media.
Khan said all such moves were aimed at nothing but to crush the economy of Kashmir and that the civil society and political parties must seriously look into the matter and look ahead for a way out.
Kashmir Inc is being systematically dragged towards destruction through such conspiracies, Khan alleged. He said instead of promoting business and tourism activities the government wants to frighten the business community through pressure tactics of NIA raids.
Khan appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to make her stand clear on the issue given the sensitivity of the matter.
