SrinagarSenior dental surgeons of Kashmir Province Saturday protested against the J&K Government order of constituting the Jammu and Kashmir State Dental Council (JKSDC) by nominating the members before the elections.
They have questioned the intentions of health minister Bali Bhagat in formation of this council and even nominating a very junior dentist, Dr.Ritesh Gupta working on time bound registrarship in the Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu as member of council, when the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has ordered for elections to JKSDC.
A senior dental surgeon from Anantnag requesting anonymity said that this registrar is blue eyed boy of health minister and running some association in Jammu. Even the Principal of IGGDC Jammu is afraid of this registrar and issue orders only after his consent. He is time and again inviting the health minister to cultural programmes and using this platform he got himself nominated to Dental Council.
The J&K High Court has ordered elections to JKSDC within a period of two months , therefore the Health and Medical Education (HME) dept has issued a order vide no 299 HME of 2017 dated 31-05-2017 and appointed Managing Director, Medical Supplies Corporation as returning officer to conduct elections. This order is binding on the HME dept to conduct the elections first and then nominate the remaining members to JKSDC. But without conducting the elections, HME constituted JKSDC vide order no 298-HME of 2017 dated 31-05-2017.
While two junior doctors of the level of Registrar and Assistant Professor were nominated from Jammu, only one Professor is nominated from Kashmir province.
No B-grade specialist or senior dental surgeon from whole of the Kashmir Province has been nominated to JKSDC. Also there is no Dy.Director Dentistry in Kashmir as the post is lying vacant.
They appealed to Health Minister and Health Secretary to quash this wrong nomination list in which hierarchy of dentists is totally neglected and juniors are given precedence over very senior dentists in the state. They also appealed to conduct elections first and then nominations to JK State Dental Council.
