Tangmarg: The shrine of Baba Reshi named after the Sufi saint Baba Payamuddin Reshi in North Kashmir that tops the revenue generation list for the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board with Rs 2.74 crore in the last financial year is in shambles and badly deserves the attention of the Board.
There are dirty washrooms, ragged matting, damaged pillars and windows and when one looks at the roof of the shrine, it narrates the tale of neglect. The mosque adjacent to the shrine is in a pitiable condition as well.
The devotees and locals staged a massive protest here against the Muslim Wakf Board alleging that the condition of the shrine and mosque have gone from bad to worse with government or the Wakf management showing no interest to refurbish it. This shrine is a golden hen for the Wakf and whatever income the Board generates goes to the coffers of the Board officials, said a protester to CNS.
Why dont you ask Waqf board as to what they do with the donation of the devotees, questioned another protester.
They said this historical shrine has been completely neglected by the Wakf. The Wakf is only interested in revenue and not in renovation, they said.
Despite repeated attempts Vice Chairman Wakf Board could not be contacted. (CNS)
