SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council run State Football Academy will conduct its maiden trails from May 18, a statement from JKSSC said Monday.
According to the statement, the first ever trails of first ever state owned academy will be held at Synthetic Turf TRC Ground Srinagar. The first batch of aspiring footballers will be selected from U-13 age group with two-day trials beginning from May 18.
It will be followed by trails for U-15 players for two days and May 22 and 23 will see U-18 players getting to show their talent under the watchful eyes of international footballer and now a JKSSC coach Mehraj uddin Wadoo. The trials, according to the statement, will be held as per the latest FIFA norms.
Wadoo and co, the statement said, will aim for overall development of the players working on both physical and mental aspect of their wards.
Wadoo-the head coach of the academy- will be aided by a trained army of coaches and fitness experts trying to bolster skill and fitness level of players.
Wadoo was unsurprisingly chuffed about working with the young talent.
It is a great feeling to be working with young talent. We have a huge potential here in football and we need to nurture that, Wadoo told Kashmir Observer.
As per Wadoo, having plied his trade for India and major clubs in Indian domestic circuit, the academy will be a full-fledged one which will run round the year.
It will be a proper academy. We are starting the proceedings with the day activities. Over the course of time, we intend to provide accommodation to players as well and make sure academy runs in all districts of the state. It is just a beginning, Wadoo said of much talked about academy.
The aspiring footballers, Wadoo said, will be given an environment where they get a feel of competitive games.
The main aim of setting up an academy by JKSCC in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association is to nurture the young talent. We have lot of talent here and if nurtured properly J&K can become a powerhouse. Make players play at big level. Conduct tours to various states of India and if possible take some of them on foreign tours. We would make them to participate in AIFF tournaments so that they get a feel of top football from a very young age, Wadoo said.
Besides working on the skill level of the players, Wadoo said, his team would make sure young footballers get to know the importance of fitness from the beginning.
For a player to succeed in football, he needs to make sure he is both physically and mentally fit. We will have top class fitness trainers to improve fitness of players, Wadoo said.
